The name index on BradfordWW1 has been updated to include an
additional 850 names from the Police Watch Committee minute books from
1914-1920. Even if your ancestor wasn’t a policeman it is worth checking the
index as they include those who joined the force for only for a few months
prior to enlisting. It also includes the names of some of the first police
reserve and others who had to register with the police for example pawnbrokers
and those who stored petrol or other chemicals. There are some names which
relate to family businesses e.g. John Wilson & Son.
If you are lucky enough to find the name of one of your ancestors then please read the guidance and contact me for further information.
